April 17, 2021, Newark, DE; The British Car Club of Delaware had its first drive outing today. We, Sharon Kalinowski, TR4; Jim Martin, Austin Healey 3000; George Alderman, Jaguar XKR; Steve Woodman, Sunbeam Alpine; Jim Fleitz, MG Midget; Wayne Elvin, MG Midget, Mike Murphy, TR6 and Terry & Georgia Young, XK8 assembled by Bertucci’s Italian Restaurant in the Christiana Towne Center, Newark, and headed out to our first stop, the Crooked Hammock Brewery.  Little did anyone know with me leading the procession I had no idea about the roads and route. Although I had my trusty GPS, it provided no comfort as we pulled out of the parking lot.  Luckily, I had a secret weapon.  A terrific and beautiful navigator that put us all right on the roadway to Middletown. Saturday’s weather report was more than favorable, it was perfect.  Partly cloudily in the high 60’s and when the wind calmed the sun was quite warm.   As always Sharon had her top-down and she does most of the time and remarked what a beautiful a drive it was as we completed each our two stops. We arrived at the Crooked Hammock just in time to meet Wayne Elvin who joined us for lunch We sampled their private beers, and the food will not disappoint.  The Crooked Hammock has an interesting scenic beach atmosphere with hammocks, Adirondack chairs, a children’s play area and even a fire pit.  There is ample space for gatherings and small groups. After an enjoyable lunch we drove about 20 minutes to Chateau Bu-De Winery & Vineyard, Chesapeake City, Maryland.  Although wine tasting has been suspended, we were able to buy and split two bottles of white and red between the seven of us.  The wine was excellent.!  We may have to go back! All and all an excellent day driving our little British cars and even better sharing it with friends.
